Ionising & Non-Ionising Radiation Protection
From industrial radiography and nuclear gauging to security screening, radiation is a tightly regulated hazard. Smart Radiation Group delivers end-to-end radiation protection — individual dose monitoring, workplace surveys and regulatory compliance — grounded in exposure science and backed by formal licensing.
Licensed by the Radiation Protection Inspectorate, Botswana
Smart Radiation Group (Pty) Ltd is licensed by Botswana's Radiation Protection Inspectorate under the Radiation Protection Act (No. 22 of 2006) and the Radiation Protection Regulations, 2008. Our licensing covers the provision of radiation monitoring and dosimetry services, as well as the supply, service and maintenance of ionising-radiation generating equipment (the latter under Licence No. BW1681/2025, valid to 2 December 2027). All radiation work is performed under a designated Responsible Person.
Personal dosimetry
Individual monitoring of occupationally exposed workers, so every dose is measured, recorded and defensible.
- TLD / OSL dosimeter programmes — whole-body and extremity
- Electronic Personal Dosimetry (EPD) — real-time dose & dose-rate with alarms
- Establishment of each worker's dose of record
- Dose registers, trending and investigation-level alerts
- Interpretation against occupational limits (ICRP/IAEA — 20 mSv/yr, averaged over 5 years)
- ALARA optimisation and radiation-worker classification
- Records for medical surveillance and regulatory reporting
Area & workplace monitoring
Mapping and controlling radiation across the workplace to protect workers, the public and the environment.
- Ambient dose-rate surveys with calibrated instruments
- Contamination (wipe) surveys — removable and fixed
- Delineation of controlled and supervised areas
- Shielding adequacy checks and leakage testing
- Public dose assessment (ICRP/IAEA — 1 mSv/yr)
- Signage, access control and workplace classification
Radiation Protection Programme & compliance
- Radiation Protection Programmes & Radiation Protection Officer support
- Source inventory, security and safe-transport arrangements
- Licensing, registration and Inspectorate liaison
- Emergency preparedness and incident response
Non-ionising radiation
- Radiofrequency (RF) & electromagnetic field (EMF) surveys
- Ultraviolet (UV) exposure assessment
- Laser safety assessment and classification
- Static and extremely-low-frequency field checks
Exposure Risk Transaction Advisory
When health and exposure liabilities can make or break a deal, we quantify them. Our transaction advisory service supports mergers, acquisitions, financing and divestments with exposure-risk due diligence — surfacing occupational health, environmental and community liabilities before they surface in the balance sheet.
- Pre-acquisition exposure & health-liability due diligence
- Occupational disease & compensation exposure quantification
- Environmental & community risk valuation
- Post-deal remediation & control roadmaps
Insurance & Occupational Litigation Services
Independent exposure science and medical-legal due diligence for insurers, legal firms, employers and compensation authorities. We verify whether occupational disease and incident claims are genuinely work-related — reconstructing exposure, weighing causation, and providing court-admissible expert evidence.
- Occupational disease & claims validation
- Exposure reconstruction & causation analysis
- Expert witness & medical-legal reports
- Employer due-diligence & fraud risk assessment
